Staff Member of the Month
This month the Spotlight staff member is Dr. Thomas’s first staff member and office manager, Ann Decker. Ann has been in the dental field for 30 years she obtained her associate degree in Applied Science from Delta College and her bachelor’s degree in Medical Management from Rasmussen College. When you walk into the office you will always be greeted by Ann’s smiling face, and she will always make you feel like family. Without Ann this office would not run as smooth as it does, all of the staff here at Thomas Orthodontics know that they can go to her whenever they need anything. For these reasons Ann is the Staff Member of the Month. Thank you to Ann to all that you do for Thomas Orthodontics.

We have had a lot of events over the last couple of weeks! We attended the Saginaw County Health Fair, this was great we got to spread the word on why it is important to have a healthy bite. Then we got to have fun and hang out with some patients at the Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum for the Tooth Friendly Egg Hunt. We were also honored to be able to be the presenting sponsor this year. Lastly we had two of our employees do the polar plunge to help raise money for the Special Olympics of Michigan. We have included a few photos below of all the fun we have had over the last few weeks. We look forward to many more events in the near future.

The Road to a Selfie-Ready Smile for Your Teen
Remember when your kid was little and you’d yell “Say cheese!” before snapping a photo? All those goofy smiles. As your child has grown into a teen, do they still smile for photos? A big, real smile showing his teeth?
All parents want their teenagers to be happy, confident and feel good about themselves. The teen years are rough! Those years of feeling awkward and insecure – don’t remind me! They say our smiles are the gateways to our hearts, but many of us are too insecure about our teeth to let our smiles shine. Now more than ever, we have options to get your teen that selfie-ready smile before they’re off to college.
Two main questions parents and teens have about orthodontics are:
- Will it hurt?
- How long will this take?
Think of your options as the settings on your GPS. Whether your teen prefers the fastest route or the more enjoyable scenic route, we will you teen to their destination of a straighter smile.
If your teen is of the mindset that the quicker the better, then braces and AcceleDent® is the way to go. You may not be familiar with AcceleDent, an orthodontics system that goes over the braces for 20 minutes each day to accelerate the work the braces are doing by up to 50%. Which means shorter time in braces!
If your teen is concerned about how they will look with metal braces or that braces will restrict them too much, you should ask about Invisalign® Teen. Invisalign aligners are made of nearly invisible clear plastic. Some teens also like that the aligners are removable so they can eat whatever they want.
There is no right or wrong answer – it’s a matter of which treatment process is right for your teen. The great news is that you have options! Call our office at (989) 792-7056 or click here to schedule a consultation to get your teen a straighter smile by college!
